The US President Trump’s visit to Warsaw has shown Poland’s strength as a country that is able to effectively achieve its diplomatic goal on a global scale – the chief of the President’s cabinet, Krzysztof Szczerski, told Polish Press Agency on Thursday.
"This is a day of great satisfaction to every Polish person. We have shown that we are effective in achieving our goals. President Trump’s visit and the Three Seas Summit required huge efforts, we managed to accomplish it, this is a huge event in diplomatic terms" – Szczerski told PAP on Thursday.
In his opinion, the visit by the US President to Warsaw has shown Poland’s strength as a country that is able to effectively achieve its diplomatic goal, and on a global scale, too. "The visit by the US President and his program speech at Krasiński square took place in Warsaw because he had been invited by the Polish President and (because) the Polish President had such a goal and was able to achieve it " – the minister emphasized.
President Trump was in Warsaw on 5-6 July. On Thursday he talked in private to President Andrzej Duda, he met leaders of the Three Seas countries and gave a speech at Krasiński square.
"Poland has shown its role in the region"
According to Szczerski, Trump’s visit to Warsaw will have long-term diplomatic consequences. "Poland has shown its role in the region, we have shown we are able to mobilize the region, we have shown we are effective in large diplomatic projects" – the minister argued.
"Our effectiveness also stemmed from good understanding of US policy priorities and of our important role in Central Europe as a country that, whenever it sets such a goal for itself, can bring together all countries of the region, between the Adriatic, Baltic and Black Seas and invite the President of the USA to the meeting" – the minister said.
As he went on to add, "it is not about sheer luck, it is about work and effectiveness". "This is a day of great satisfaction to every Polish person" – he emphasized.
According to Szczerski, US President’s speech at Krasiński square, where he talked, among other things, of the Western civilization which should defend itself, is the "key message of his presidency". "In this vision of the model and shape of Western civilization, the conservative model, Poland’s role is significant" – he stated.
"This speech was a global event"
In the minister’s opinion, Trump’s speech at Krasiński square is of great significance to the Polish historic policy and to the presentation of Polish history worldwide. "This speech was a global event, it was watched by the entire world. It is no accident that the US President gave his speech in front of the Warsaw Uprising monument " – Szczerski pointed out.
"The idea of the Conservative Renaissance of the West (as presented by Trump) is based on Polish experience, Polish history and Polish values. This is an extremely important event in the long term for Polish historic policy, Poland’s image worldwide and Poland’s prestige. President Trump pointed out the universal nature of Polish history" – said the minister.
"If this can be said about Poland and it is the US President saying that, then Polish politicians, Polish media and those representing Poland worldwide should, too, always talk this way about post-1989 Poland" – Szczerski went on to add.
