Professor Zbigniew Mikołejko has passed away at the age of 72. He was a distinguished philosopher, historian of religion and ideas, essayist and poet.

First goosander family this year crosses busy avenue in Warsaw

The goosander (Mergus merganser) is a protected bird species which in Warsaw can be found practically only in Łazienki Park. Right after hatching out, chicks follow their mothers and head towards Vistula River. Although the whole path is not very long, it does include a very difficult obstacle for the birds to surmount - the busy Czerniakowska Street. This year's first brave goosander mother successfully lead her offspring across the road. As every year, city services helped the birds migrate safely.

U.S. drone forced into emergency landing after losing contact with base

A U.S. Air Force unmanned drone lost communication with base during a test flight from Romania to Poland on Monday evening. The MQ9 Reaper drone was forced into emergency landing and the military located it shortly after. "Everything was under control," Poland's Air Force Inspector assured on Tuesday (March 19).

Defence minister: Poland is not planning to send troops to Ukraine

Poland's Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said on Monday (March 18) that the government was not considering to send troops to Ukraine. The minister spoke at a joint press conference held with his German counterpart Boris Pistorius. He also announced that on March 26 Poland and Germany would launch an "armored capabilities coalition" to support Ukraine.

Jourova for TVN24: Polish gov't is strongly determined to fix harm done to its judiciary system

"I see very strong determination from the side of the current government to correct things which, in my view, were wrong in the past," EU Commission Vice President Vera Jourova told TVN24 on Thursday (March 14). This way she commented on the ongoing changes to the Polish judiciary system. Asked if said changes could lead the EU to end the Article 7 procedure against Poland, Jourova said that "the ball is on Polish playground".

"You are building one of the biggest armies in NATO," the chief of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday after meeting with Poland's President Andrzej Duda. Among the topics the two politicians discussed were potential solutions that could help to safeguard democracy and the rule of law from threats coming from spyware systems such as Pegasus.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday (Feb.28) he would meet protesting farmers' leaders on Thursday, as demonstrations continued across the country. He added that Poland was in talks with Ukraine regarding a temporary closing of the border between the two countries. Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov said later that day Ukraine was not going to close its border with Poland and was engaged in no talks on the matter.

Polish farmers staged massive protest in Warsaw. PM: we might expand ban on Ukrainian products

Thousands of Polish farmers took to the streets of Warsaw on Tuesday (Feb.27), carrying the national flag and blowing handheld horns, escalating a protest which started early February against food imports from Ukraine and European Union green rules. Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he could not rule out widening a national ban on imports of Ukrainian grains to other products if the European Union does not act to protect the bloc's markets.
